It feels good to be back on our food hunt in JB. There are many good cafes and eateries in Tan Hiok Nee and one of such breakfast place is Ah Ma TeoChew Kuih. Was warmly welcomed in and introduced to the varies homemade kueh inspired by their Ah Ma's special recipes that have been handed down to the fourth generation.
Stepping in to the 2 storey shophouse, mimic the setting of an old school coffee shop giving a nostalgic atmosphere. More seating at level 2.
The big signboard at the end shares the history and memories back in 1940s where Ah Ma's in-laws started and owned the famous Lam Huk Kopitiam serving delicious kuih, buns, desserts and coffee.
Now, Ah Ma Teochew Kuih serves their signature homemade kuih, buns, coffee, teochew porridge and other mouthwatering dishes.

We ordered a variety of Teochew Kuih starting with our favourite - Ku Chai Kuih & Mang Kuang Kuih (2pcs for RM5)
We really love the Ku Chai Kuih filling and its one of the better ones that we tasted. Would have been perfect if it has been served warm. It was a shame the kuihs were cold when we tried it. Otherwise the skin is thin with stuffed with fillings.
My first acquaintance with Teochew kuih is probably Peng Kuih, as it was filling and delicious. An all time favourite for young and old. Their Teochew Rice Kuih is decent and would have been tastier if it was warmer. (RM3.50)
Teochew signature dessert is Oh Ni and we have to order their Golden Bun Oh Ni (RM8.90 for 2 pcs) to give it a try. Crispy thin crust on the outside and sweet yam filling on the inside.
Another interesting item on the menu is their signature 4th Generation Fried Mang Kuang Kuih (RM5 for 2 pcs). If you are looking for fried version, this might be your liking. They also have fried peanut kuih, fried red bean paste kuih, kaya puff and curry puff too!
