Weekday Lunch Date with Hubby at Mookata

Hubby and I don't usually get to go out for dates due to our busy schedule revolving around our work, children and home matters. It is indeed rare to be on leave together and going out to shop for our girl's new school bag followed by window shopping. We took a bus and traveled within the town area, visiting the temple and stopping at Bugis Junction, Bugis + and Plaza Singapura.

The best thing to go out on a weekday is the avoidance of crowd and also there are many restaurants and cafe offering weekday lunch deals. We chanced upon Mookata (Bugis outlet) which is having their Weekday Lunch Promotion for Set of 2 at the price of S$21++ (UP: S$34.90) plus Pineapple rice for 2, and decided to go for it.

I like the ambiance of the restaurant and it is bright, neat and welcoming. Love the bits of turquoise on its furnishing and colourful umbrellas which liven up the entire space.

Mookata has been really popular in the recent years and we saw many sprouting out in the restaurants as well as in the food court within the neighbourhood. It is a Thai cuisine where diners can steamboat and BBQ their food together. "moo" means 'pork' and "kata" means 'skillet', the utensil for cooking. In short, it means pork skillet.

For the Set of 2, we had Vegetables and Meat Platter served to our table. The Vegetables Platter includes chinese cabbage, kang kong, xiao bai cai, corn, golden mushroom, egg, tung hoon and tofu.

Our meat platter includes a combination of marinated chicken (thigh), pork collar, prawns, squids, suriyaki, streaky bacon, pork belly, fishballs, meatballs, crabsticks and otah fishcakes.

The weekday lunch promotion also comes with a bowl of Pineapple rice for both of us. However, drinks are not inclusive.

Staff is very friendly. An uncle gave us a brief explanation of the ingredients and how to start. Pretty helpful for first timers.

The meat are marinated and all we have to do is to BBQ them. You can also choose to steamboat for a healthier option but the meat is tastier when it's barbecued.

Initially I thought the servings is a little small to fit our appetite, but it turns out to be just nice. The pineapple rice probably helped to fill our tummies. I also like their chilli sauce which is separated into 3 different levels of hotness. Normal, spicy and very spicy. The normal chilli fits me perfectly and hubby find the extreme spicy chilli sauce shiok.

The soup is brewed with pork bone and lemongrass. We slumped up all the soup left in the pot which is very sweet. Our final bill is S$25.40 for 2 pax which is a good deal. Valentine's day is tomorrow but grabbing every opportunity to enjoy some personal time and quiet moments allow us to feel it's Valentine's day every day.
