Fun Day at Singapore Discovery Centre (Family Explorers Membership)

Hubby and I took the week off planning to spend time with our growing teenagers. Our initial plans to travel overseas after our boy's A-levels went down the drain with the continuing instability of the Covid situation - particularly the latest Omicron variant.

We decided to be tourists in our own country - to relax and just have an enjoyable time together. It is a lot harder to plan for activities for our teenagers compared to when they were younger but they have been really accommodating to park their time aside for us too.

I was browsing for locations that we have not been to in the recent years and chanced upon Singapore Discovery Centre. I thought it may not be a good fit for our teens but was delighted to learn that there are fun attractions like Escape Room and Laser Tag which will definitely be of interest to them.

FAMILY EXPLORERS MEMBERSHIP

As we are planning to do a variety of activities there, signing up for Singapore Discovery Centre's Family Explorers Membership will earn us the most savings!

For only $120, we are entitled to one time play at Escape Room, Laser Tag, XD Theater Ride and monthly redemption to watch selected Blockbuster Movie at IWerks Theater through our 1 year membership! A good deal as price of playing at Escape room usually cost about $100 already and now we get to enjoy all the activities that could cost our family more than $200 at half price.

The place is not very big but you can easily spend half a day here if you plan your time well.

Admission to Permanent Exhibits Gallery - Sandbox and Through The Lens of Time are free for Singaporeans and PRs. Proof of identification is required upon Gallery admission.

We explore the history of early Singapore through a new lens and take us to the scars and days of darkness during war time, how Singapore fight against all odds and journey its way to independence and its significant milestones through the developmental years

Sandbox takes us through the multi-faceted, present-day Singapore, looking at how Singapore has built its defence and security system against threats, how Singaporean overcome differences and embrace diversity and what opportunities the future lies ahead

TIPS:
1. To enter the other attractions, time slot will need to be booked. Hence, it is best to plan ahead to avoid disappointment.
2. Wear covered shoes (requirement for laser tag)
3. Entry is only permitted for persons who are fully vaccinated (age 12 years and above)
4. Some attractions have age limit. To check prior to booking

===========================================

We went for Laser Tag first where we sat in for safety briefing (~5 to 10 minutes). Total play time is 15 minutes : 5 minutes for warm up, 10 minutes for actual game play.

We all had a lot of fun as laser tag has always been one of our favourite family activity. The excitement of 'shooting' at our opponents with the Phaser gun and seeing our score board at the end of the game. It was really tiring despite the fact that no running is allowed! Awesome game for our teens.

After a heart bumping round, we head on to another brain-wrecking activity - The Escape Room. There are 4 different rooms with different levels of difficulty and thrill factor - The Armoury, The Medical Centre, The Research Lab and The Basement

Escape Rooms are pretty popular so booking of your time slot is important. We secured our booking for The Research Lab and had 1 hour to solve 3 rooms. Thankfully we have helpline through a phone and we were able to solve all clues and escape within the hour! This is actually our FIRST escape!

XD Theater is our final stop and we took on a 5 minutes 4D simulation thrilling ride

Our membership entitles us to watch a movie too! This month it is screening Encanto and Ghostbuster. Unfortunately our teens are not so keen for both movies and we gave it a miss.

You can also go for Peddle boat rides with your family membership but we decided it was enough for us for the day. It was a shame that Paintball is not available else our children will love to go for it!

We did not get to take many videos/photos at the exhibits gallery as our phones were still locked in the lockers escaping from the Escape room. Yet, it has been a surprisingly fun, exciting and yet educational trip to the Singapore Discovery Centre.
