How to get to R&F Mall from Johor Bahru CIQ by foot

R&F Mall had its first soft opening on 28 March 2019 but there is no rush to visit as many of the shop space remains empty and some are under renovations. It will probably take a couple of months more before we see some vibrancy and crowd coming in.

HOW TO GET TO R&F MALL?

We were on a day trip to Johor Bahru and thought of exploring the new mall since we had a couple of hours to spare. R&F Mall is very near to CIQ Checkpoint and if you are driving, it probably only take 2-3 minutes after clearing the JB custom.

It is also very accessible by foot via a 650m fully sheltered link bridge which gives travelers another option to consider (apart from City Square JB and Komtar) on their next shopping trip. Unfortunately, there is not many signboards to direct you to the link bridge for now so you have to keep a look-out.

Upon exiting JB CIQ, there is a road that leads to JB Sentral and towards Johor Bahru City Square Mall. Do not cross the road and turn left. Look out for the sign that indicates R&F Mall. This is the start of the link bridge.

The entire link bridge is covered and it took us about 10 minutes to walk from JB's CIQ to R&F Mall. Hence, you do not have to worry about rain or shine and there are no stairways that you need to climb especially if you are pulling a luggage with you.

It is a one-way guided link with not much option to exit halfway through.

If you are looking for some nice place to eat, here is a little tip. Upon reaching R&F Mall, look on your left and you will spot some eateries (coffeeshop, noodle shops) across the road.

There is a hidden gem behind the blocks - Restoran Ah Bee (华美亞b肉骨茶) which is very popular among the locals. We have been there once 1-2 years ago and enjoyed it too. Now it is so convenient to get to here even if you are not driving.

We did not detour and continued our walk which brings us to R&F Mall. It is very quiet and most of the shops are not occupied. Certain areas have an open air concept with residential units surrounding the mall. Not sure how the rainy or hot weather will impact the shopping experience.

There are a few shops that are opened like - Skechers, HLA, DEES for those into fashion and Daiso, MR DIY and Yubiso are the bigger shops that we could spend some time in. In terms of food & beverages, there is Coffee Bean, Season, Shihlin, The Alley, Secret Recipe, Subway and more.

Good to see that R&F Mall has a cinema (Emperor Cinema) within which is still under renovations. Maybe it will bring some crowd in upon its opening.

R&F Mall - Atrium. In conjunction with the released of Avengers Endgame, R&F Mall has an interactive exhibit with life-szie figurines including Iron-Man and other Marvels merchandises

This is pretty much what R&F Mall has to offer for now. Many areas are still under renovations and there isn't much to do around yet. Thankfully the mall is not too far from JB CIQ and it is easily accessible by foot. You can still drop by and check out the new space if you just wish to explore the area and enjoy some quietness.
