Where to stay in Sekinchan - Padi Box Homes & Cafe

Pre-covid Travel Post

We knew we wanted to spend a night at Sekinchan and Padi Box strikes out as our top choice because of availability, cost and experience.

Location

Located in Sekinchan about 95km for Kuala Lumpur City Center, it took us about 1.5 hours to reach by car. We called a Grab from our homestay in KL to take us to Sekinchan - Cost: RM160

Padi Box

Padi Box is made up of bright & colourful freight containers situated amongst the paddy fields. Bicycle rentals, activities and tours (Sky Mirror, Fireflies & Eagle Feeding etc) are available for booking through Padi Box as well. Check out their website for more information and booking in advance to avoid disappointment.

A modest homestay that is not fancy and down to earth. A short getaway from the crowd and noise from the buzzling city, Waking up to the scent of the grass, sounds of nature and welcomed by blue sky and green fields.

Open space car park outside Padi Box where guests can park their vehicle.

Front view of Padi Box

Relaxation corner on the ground floor - closer to the paddy fields.

Behind this door is the entry to the rooms.

There are 2 floors and rooms are available on both ground and upper deck. We booked a ground floor  unit for our stay as the upper floor has been taken.

View from outside of our room

View from the upper floor.

It is pretty hot in the day and I guess most will come out to chill in the night instead.

Another resting lounge on the upper floor.

A nice spot to take pretty instagram photo

Play Room
There isn't anyone and we had the whole space for ourselves to play snooker and our hands on the very first Nintendo game console!

Let's check out the bedroom! It definitely isn't big, and most of the space were being occupied by the 2 Queen size beds. There was no available walking space but we managed to slot our luggage between the beds and the wall.
Very simple setup and the room is considered clean and decent. Even though the space is small, there are enough charging points, a table fan, and water pot provided. Most important is the air-condition working well as we definitely do not want to feel toasted in the container.

Toilet & shower area is most basic and enough for our needs. I appreciate that toiletries and towels were provided.

When the night falls, Padi Box is lighted up and the place looks really pretty. This is also the time where guests start to be outside to feel the breeze and hear the sound of the crickets/frogs.

It was a unique experience staying in a freight container. Our girl was 'traumatized' by the little insects and had a hard time settling down in the room. We had a black-out experience that night in the middle of our sleep. Thankfully the power was restored within 30 minutes or we will have a sleepless night. It is definitely not the usual room we have but a memorable stay that we will not forget.
