Our family wefie in front of Year of the Monkey lantern centerpiece, featuring little monkeys hanging around a large peach tree. It is a shame the monkeys appear a little too small and we could not get a closer shot.
The Chinese New Year Festive Street Bazaar at Chinatown is the best place to feel the spirit of the festive season. We were blessed with a breezy evening and it was a pleasure taking our time browsing through the street stalls, sampling mouth-watering cny goodies and looking out for more cny decorative items for our home.
I found it amusing when our girl noticed the banner indicating Free Wi-Fi at Chinatown and quickly inform her brother. Seems like the availability of Wi-Fi perks their interest even though we were trying to make our way through the crowd!
If you have some time, do drop by Chinatown Heritage Centre. We had some interesting reads about how different dialect group (Cantonese, Teochew and Hokkien) celebrate Chinese New Year. Alternatively, you can also go for their Multimedia guided tour where you can explore the galleries or Character guided tour to learn about iconic Chinatown characters through their personal stores. Admission tickets applies - more information at http://chinatownheritagecentre.com.sg
Chinatown Festive Street Bazaar will continue from now till 7th February 2016, spreading across Pagoda Street, Smith Street, Sago Street, Temple Street and Trengganu Street. Do not miss the annual festive bazaar sale as we welcome the Year of the Monkey!

My husband and I are not good with crowds but we do indulge his mum last year to visit Chinatown Square to soak in some of the festivities. Thanks for sharing this... I never knew they give our free samples of the Taiwanese fruit jelly. Maybe we might head over Chinatown this Wednesday when my girl doesn't have school ;)
Yes yes I wanna go tot he Chinatown Heritage Centre! Hmmm Maybe next week when the kids get a day off from school on 初三!
I want to go but it's quite tough to brave the crowd with two toddlers in tow. Next year ba!
We were there just over the weekend and omg the crowd was really heavy! We cannot even get near to the stalls that sells those jellies.. haha! Hope you guys managed to snag some great deals over the trip!
The CNY looks really crowded!
Weekdays afternoon will be better with the lesser crowd. Do note the street bazaar will be only till 7 Feb!
it's really a very interesting place! I think you will enjoy the tour!
it is indeed a challenge to go with toddlers. Hopefully it will be easier when they are older.
oh yes! it was so crowded!! We literally squeeze through and waited patiently just to grab half piece of the jelly for each child. Sweat!
it is indeed very crowded especially on weekends. luckily our kids learned how to squeeze their way through also. hahah
I brought Dana there twice using the newly opened Downtown Line 2 MRT. V convenient but yes crowded, even on a weekday afternoon. I thought the items on sale this year were more pricey too.
Wah terrible. I have NEVER brought the kids to Chinatown *embarassed* So put off by heat and the crowds. I must try to be braver.
So happening! That reminds me that I haven't really prepared for CNY yet!
I always find the items at Chinatown appears a little more pricey compared to neighbourhood. However, for the spirit of CNY, we will buy 1 or 2 items just to let the children experience shopping at Chinatown. :)
It's really very crowded and it takes a lot of patience to walk through the crowd. I still recall the days where my hubby and i rotate carrying our kid and it was such a tiring experience. :D
I only got prepared these few days only too!
We love going down to Chinatown for a family walk too. Went a little late this year but thankfully it wasn't that bad of a crowd! Happy CNY to you and your lovely family!
