4 Days Kuala Lumpur Road Trip - Day 3 | 吉隆坡旅游 | Hock Kee Kopitiam, Kafei Dian, 鬼仔巷, Central Market & Escape Room Fun!
Our Day 3 in Kuala Lumpur was all about slowing down and experiencing the city's heritage, food, and fun attractions. We started the morning by making our way from our Airbnb unit at Soho Suites KLCC to the train station, showing just how convenient and affordable it is to get around Kuala Lumpur using public transport. The city's well-connected MRT system makes exploring different neighbourhoods incredibly easy, even for first-time visitors.
No Malaysian morning is complete without a hearty breakfast, so our first stop was Hock Kee Kopitiam's Lot 10 outlet in the heart of Bukit Bintang. Originally founded in Johor Bahru, Hock Kee Kopitiam has grown into one of Malaysia's favourite modern kopitiam brands, with outlets across Johor, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Kelantan, and Perak. Despite its rapid expansion, the brand stays true to its roots by serving authentic Malaysian and Nanyang dishes in a nostalgic and welcoming setting.
Hock Kee Kopitiam is especially famous for its Signature Nasi Lemak, featuring fragrant coconut rice paired with spicy sambal, crispy anchovies, peanuts, and various toppings. Another must-try is the classic kaya and butter toast, served with thick slices of butter and homemade kaya alongside perfectly cooked soft-boiled eggs and aromatic local kopi. Their Charcoal Polo Bun with coffee butter is also a crowd favourite, with its crispy crust and rich, buttery filling that pairs wonderfully with a cup of traditional Malaysian coffee.
After breakfast, we hopped onto the MRT and headed towards Pasar Seni, one of Kuala Lumpur's most culturally rich districts. The short train ride was smooth and comfortable, and before long, we found ourselves surrounded by colourful heritage buildings and the charming atmosphere of old Kuala Lumpur.
Our next stop was Hainan Kafei Dian (源昌隆咖啡店). More than just a coffee shop, the café is housed inside a beautifully restored building that once served as a post office dating back to 1911. The heritage building has retained much of its original charm, featuring colonial architecture, high ceilings, vintage décor, and old-world furnishings that instantly transport visitors back to a bygone era.
The name "Kafei Dian" literally means "coffee shop" in Chinese dialect, and the café embraces the nostalgic spirit of a traditional Malaysian kopitiam. Located just a short walk from Pasar Seni MRT Station and close to Kwai Chai Hong, it has become a popular stop for both locals and tourists looking to enjoy good food while soaking in Kuala Lumpur's rich heritage atmosphere.
The café also offers traditional dim sum items and local favourites, making it an excellent place for breakfast, brunch, or even a leisurely afternoon break. We took the opportunity to enjoy another cup of local coffee and delights. It is one of those places where history, architecture, and food come together beautifully, making it a memorable stop during our exploration of Kuala Lumpur's Chinatown.
From there, we made our way to Kwai Chai Hong (鬼仔巷), one of Kuala Lumpur's hidden gems tucked away within Chinatown. The beautifully restored alleyway is filled with colourful murals and interactive street art that tell stories of life in Kuala Lumpur's Chinatown during the early days. Every corner was incredibly photogenic, making it a perfect place to explore, take pictures, and learn more about the city's heritage.
We then continued to Central Market, one of Kuala Lumpur's most iconic shopping destinations. The market is home to a wide variety of local handicrafts, batik products, souvenirs, artwork, and traditional items that showcase Malaysia's multicultural heritage. It was a wonderful place to browse, shop for gifts, and immerse ourselves in the creativity and craftsmanship of local artisans.
To end our day on a high note, we headed back to the city and challenged ourselves at Breakout Escape Room located in Avenue K Shopping Mall. The escape room experience was both exciting and mentally stimulating as we worked together to solve clues and puzzles against the clock. It was the perfect way to wrap up an enjoyable day filled with great food, cultural discoveries, shopping, and family fun in Kuala Lumpur.
Day 3 turned out to be one of our favourite days in Kuala Lumpur, combining the best of local food, heritage attractions, hidden gems, and unique experiences. If you're planning a trip to KL, this itinerary offers a wonderful mix of culture, history, and entertainment that shouldn't be missed.
