Taiwan Trip Day 10 - Kaohsiung (高雄) | Formosa Boulevard Station (美丽岛站)

10 December 2018

If you are in Kaohsiung, then most probably you will not miss Formosa Boulevard Station (美丽岛站) as it is the main interchange station between the red and orange lines. Recognized as one of the most beautiful MRT Station in the world, many tourists came to admire the charm of the Dome of Light.

The 30-meter diameter dome took over 4 years to complete. Created by renowned Italian artist Narcissus Quagliata, the world's largest public glass installation shares the story of human life in four representations - Water (The Womb of Life), Earth (Prosperity and Growth), Light (The Creative Spirit) and Fire (Destruction and Rebirth)

Take a walk around the Dome and you will see the beautiful myriad of colours pieced up by around 4,500 glass pieces on the ceiling of the station.

There is also a lighting show (about 3 - 7 minutes) at certain times of the day.

Lighting Show Schedule
Mon - Thu: 11am, 3pm, 8pm
Fri: 11am, 3pm, 7pm, 8pm
Sat, Sun: 11am, 3pm, 5pm, 7pm, 8pm

We happened to be on time for the show and as it was Christmas season, Christmas medley songs filled the station. I was hoping there were more contrast or interchanging colours during the light show so was quite disappointed to see only a few lights that went on and off throughout.

Still the glass installation is awesome and it is a rare and pretty sight to have in the MRT station.
