Taiwan Trip Day 9 - Kaohsiung (高雄) | Liuhe Night Market (六合夜市)

9 December 2018

Liuhe Night Market (六合夜市) - Our final stop for Day 9. After a long day touring around the city, it feels good to know that the open-air night market is only minutes walk away from our accommodation - Jia's Inn.

Located in the heart of the city, getting to Liuhe Night Market is easy as it is close to the famous Formosa Boulevard Station (美麗島站) - Exit 11 at R10/O5. You can admire the renowned Dome of Light before heading on to a hearty feast at the food street as part of the itinerary.

Liuhe Night Market has been around since 1950s with many food stalls stationed in Dagangpu area also known as Dagnagpu Night Market. Now, it is a very popular tourist destination with more than hundred stalls selling a variety of local delicacies.

I enjoyed walking through Liuhe Night Market as it stretches along a main street of about 300 meters. It was definitely easier to figure our way around and we got a good view of all the food vendor stalls at both sides of the road.

Even after visiting many night markets in Taiwan and trying many delicious local delights, there is always something new we can find in the food street.

Stinky Tofu
This is a local delight that we can only truly enjoy while being away from home. Instead of shunning away from the smell, we head towards it to find our jackpot.

Enjoying her stinky tofu (NT60) as much as she can, This is definitely our girl's MUST-EAT in every night market we go to.

Barbecue House (烤肉之家)
We spotted a crowd around this stall and decided to join in the 'fun' of queuing. We did waited for awhile before receiving our order.

Love the taste of the meat baked in charcoal fire which has a strong charcoal aroma

Dumplings
I would say this is my personal favourite stall in Liuhe Night Market. Each dumpling is selling at NT5 and I bought 10 pieces to try.

It turns out that the pork dumplings tasted awesome! Meat is juicy and tasty and the overall flavour is just right! I love it so much that I bought another box.

Papaya Milk (木瓜牛奶)
A famous drink in the local markets

Sweet Potato Balls
Our boy has a liking for certain food and sweet potato balls is one of them. NT50 for 1 packet.

I lost track of where we ate at the final food stall before we end for the night. Nevertheless, our tummies are satisfied.

Craving for more dumplings and hence we ordered from another shop - 小笼包

The streets of the vibrant market are wide and it is easy to walk through leisurely. We spent more than 1 hour at Liuhe Night Market and had no worries about feeling hungry through the night as the food street is so easily accessible.
