Taiwan Trip Day 8 - Tainan (台南) | TWICE themed SoSee Coffee (首璽咖啡) | Chihkan Tower (赤崁楼)

8 December 2018

As our children gets older, they also starting to have a voice in where they would like to go and this plays an important part when I am planning for our family trip. Our boy is a big fan of TWICE and he made a special request to visit TWICE member - Tzuyu's (周子瑜) mother's cafe : Sosee Coffee (首璽咖啡) in Tainan. Hence, I made plans to make sure that this is our must go in Tainan.

Part 3 of Day 8 @ Tainan
1) SoSee Coffee (首璽咖啡)
2) Chihkan Tower (赤崁楼)

2:30pm - Located in Yunong Road, east district of Tainan, the cafe, opened by Tzuyu's mother is very spacious, with high ceiling and occupies two levels. The industrial style interior has a bar at the central of the cafe dedicated to drinks.

As soon as you enter, you can find many TWICE posters, signed by each member. If you are a fan of the group, you will love to take some pictures here as a remembrance.

The smile on our boy's face is definitely worth the trip. I believe it is every fan's dream to have just one of the signed poster as part of their collection. Though we can only admire the collection, at least we made it here to leave our footprints. Sosee Coffee - TWICE themed cafe definitely has attracted some fans since its opening.

I must say the meals offered here is very diverse as well. Apart from beverages, SoSee Coffee has sandwiches, burgers, pastas, and also hotpots on their menu.

It was near 3pm and we were famished by now! Ordered 2 hotpots sets to share as in a couple of hours time it will be time for dinner!

There are lots of fresh ingredients within the pot and it turns out that the portion is just nice for us and we still have tummy space for more food later.

I love the ambiance here and it is a great place for families and friends to gather and have dessert and drinks together.

Mission accomplished and wish fulfilled!

4:15pm - Chikan Tower (赤崁楼) is only about 10 minutes walk away from where we were staying - Fushin Tainan Hotel. Along with Anping Fort, Chihkan Tower, the oldest building in Tainan's West Central District is a famous historic landmark. Built in 1652 by the Dutch, it was originally called Provintia which means 'Eternity' in Dutch. The tower has undergone numerous repairs and refurbishments for the past 300 years to how it looks today.

Wenchang Pavilion (文昌閣) - where Kui Xing (奎星) is worshiped and Taoist believe that Kui Xing is the god in charge of examinations.

We spent a bit of time queuing to get the Lord Kui Xing Pencil. Simply follow the instructions and ask for the God's favour. Once you 'hit' it right, you can grab one pencil where it is believed to help with academic studies.

Lovely view from the top

It is believed that one of the two stone horses now displayed at Chihkan Tower once guarded Koxinga's tomb which loathed to perform the duty for Zheng and wreaked havoc in the neighbouring plantations at night. Their legs were thus broken by angry villagers. Currently, one of the horses is positioned in Chihkan Tower and the other is behind Yongkang Tianhou Temple.

There is also a Koi pond within where you can also purchase fish food to feed the fishes.

When the night falls, Chihkan Tower is another pretty sight when the yellow lighting shines on the facade of the building, adding an ancient charm to the architecture.

Unfortunately, we did not have time to explore the area longer as we have to rush back to the hotel to wash up and catch the free shuttle to the night markets.
