Shoon Huat Bak Ku Teh (顺发肉骨茶) @ Taman Sentosa

Shoon Huat Bak Ku Teh (顺发肉骨茶) is very famous and popular in Johor Bahru. In fact it has many branches (over 20!!) and there are stalls bearing a similar name/spelling that I often get confused. After trying out various BKT around Johor Bahru, the one and only shop (to date) that we will go to for a delicious Bak Ku Teh meal is Shoon Huat Bak Ku Teh (Main Branch) at Taman Sentosa.

Located along Jalan Sutera 1, it is about 7 minutes drive away from KSL City. The shop is usually packed and finding seats can be a challenge especially during peak hours. Seating within the shop space and even the air-condition area are filled up very fast. Many have to seat outside the shop, along the corridor to accommodate more people who are waiting.

Not sure what to order? The menu with price are clearly stated to avoid confusion. I would say the pricing is pretty reasonable and the portion is good.

Our standard order - piping hot Bak Ku Teh with add-on of bean curd skin, pig liver, pig stomach, meat ball, pacific clams etc. You can also choose your favourite ingredients to add on to your pot. Shoon Huat Bak Ku Teh are cooked in flame-licked claypots over charcoal stoves and I love the extra fragrance and flavour. The clear broth soup is not too peppery (like the ones we have in Singapore) and it has a subtle herbal taste that is not too intense. It has the right balance of sweetness and flavour that makes it the perfect pot for our taste bud.

At times we also love to order a small pot of Sesame Oil Chicken or even Braised Pig Trotters.

Our BKT meal is never complete without You Tiao/Dough Fritter (油条)! It is one of the best side dish to have!

Salted Vegetables is my personal favourite side dish that compliments our meal.

We are frequent patrons of Shoon Huat Bak Ku Teh for the past few years and it is still our favourite place to go if we crave for BKT.
