Milk Tea Paradise in Taman Mount Austin [JB]

The craze and love for milk tea/bubble tea is on a rise and many shops have become very innovative not only in terms of the flavour but also in their packaging. It is amazing that in just a couple of months, dozens of tea/beverage shops has opened in Taman Mount Austin (Johor Bahru), and you will be spoilt for choice! We have tried most of them and here is a running list of what milk tea shops you can find there.

1. Libertea (自由軒)

I actually love the rich and fragrant milky flavour of the formulated tea from Taiwan. With a mixture of dried fruit, it is blended into the tea fragrance. A taste that brought us back to revisit again.

2. Milky Farm (白色牧場)

First branch in Malaysia which brings in Taiwan's signature Papaya Milk. The cafe has a lovely farm theme decor and there are also other juices and milk flavour to choose from. Little ones will love this place

3. Regius Tea (天御皇茶)

Originated from Hong Kong, Regiustea is a pioneer in Cheese Tea - where a layer of creamy cheese is placed on top.

4. Royal Tea (皇茶)

With more than 130 outlets in China, it also offers delicious cheese milk tea and other assorted high quality tea from Sun Moon Lake.

5. Hola Tea

A new retro British-style Taiwanese hand-shake tea shop where it has photo wall, book scrolls, and a fireplace where you can not only just have a drink but also find gorgeous instagrammable spots for photo taking. 

6. Tea Bubble (茶丸家)

Instead of the usual black pearls, Tea Bubble has colourful multi-coloured ones - using healthy fruit and vegetable juices to make the coloured dough. Red from dragon fruit, Yellow is mango and blue is butterfly bean flower.  

7. Old Couples (噢！老爷)

More cafes are taking efforts to decorate their interior and Old Couples is a hot IG spot where you can not only enjoy all-natural bean curd dessert, tea and yogurt drinks but also sit in a ball pool/bath tub and have fun snapping away.

8. Le Cha Handcrafted Tea (乐茶手作轻饮)

A combination of healthy and leisure beverage, Le Cha's tea is made from fresh fruits to integrate health into the tea mix catering to the taste of local consumers. There are also assorted flavour apart from the fruit series to pick from.

9. The Cheese Lab

I wasn't really sure if I should put this under milk tea section as The Cheese Lab not only offers a cool selection of beverages, their burnt cheese cake is also awesomely delicious! A cake that carries 3 different kind of taste - half, fully and overbaked all in a single slice. I would say this is definitely a great place to enjoy a nice cup of drink with a slice of cheese cake. A unique place that beats the other bubble tea shops that are sprouting in Taman Mount Austin.

10. Xing Fu Tang (幸福堂)

Before Xing Fu Tang arrives in Singapore, you can find it at Johor Bahru already! From the entrance, you can see the staff busy hand frying the caramelized brown sugar pearls based on the Taiwanese's ancient method. It has attracted quite a crowd upon its recent opening last month. Immerse in the realm of happiness with their signature Brown Sugar Milk Tea.

11. The Whalet Tea (琉璃鲸)

Whalet probably has one of the most brown sugar tea flavours to pick from and we tried their signature drink - Black Whale Avocado which is tasty! Fresh brown sugar is hand-made daily and the pearls are stirred and boiled for 2-3 hours at more than 100 degrees.

There are more tea shops in Taman Mount Austin than what is listed here and this list will continue to expand in time to come. I can safely say this area is a Milk Tea Paradise and you will LOVE to be here if you are a tea lover.

Started from Taiwan in 2017, I'Milky now has outlets in various countries including Malaysia. We bought Taro Milk Tea and Green Tea to try. Taro flavour is very thick, rich and natural. Probably not the one that many will love but if you are a Taro lover, this might be for you.

13. The Monarch Tea (将军令)

Another bubble tea shop from Taiwan invaded Taman Mount Austin in June 2019 and its going to open another shop in Sutera end of August. Coming in strong, even the names of their drinks are domineering - based on the concepts of the novel - The Three Kingdoms. If you like black pearl brown sugar milk tea, you can come and give it a try.

14. Ji Long Tang (吉龍糖)

One of the newer player in the area offering brown sugar bubble tea as well as other flavoured tea selection. We ordered their signature Brown Sugar Boba Thick Milk tea and it taste not too bad. To be different from the other shops, we noticed they have engaged live band to come and sing on Saturday nights so guests can indulge in good music while enjoying their cuppa boba.
