Sawadee Resort Hotel & SPA (Near KSL City & Holiday Plaza)

It was another weekend of exploring in Johor Bahru. We drove across the causeway without any concrete plans on where to stay as we know there are always options open, and if we cannot find any rooms, home is not too far away.

Apart from looking out for good food, we also keep an eye on hotels located in strategic location. For those who frequent KSL City and Holiday Plaza, you may have noticed Sawadee Resort Hotel & SPA which is located directly opposite Holiday Villa. Initially, I thought it is only a massage and SPA centre but only to learn that room stay is also provided.

Our radar alert is on and we wasted no time walking in to check out the rooms.

The boutique hotel has 44 rooms all located on the 5th and 6th floor of the building. Consisting of a mixture of Family room (2 King), Romance room (1 King), Superior room (2 Single) and Deluxe room (1 King).

A point to note is lift access is only up to the 5th floor. Hence, you (& your luggage) have to climb the staircase up one floor if your room is on the 6th. Parking for hotel guests is complementary. It is located at the basement level and unfortunately, there is no lift access from the carpark to the lobby as well. Hence, if you have a lot of luggage with you, it will be a little inconvenient.

We took up their family room located on the 6th floor as the other room on the 5th is occupied. Family room is priced at RM200 per night, plus a deposit (refundable upon check out) of RM50. If you need another key card, another deposit of RM50 (refundable) is required.

The children LOVE the room as it is big and spacious! Most importantly, the Free WIFI signal is relatively strong and they get to play games. I like the design of the room where the beds are separated by the divider, plus there are two television sets! We get to watch our favourite channels separately, keep a close lookout of our kiddos, enjoying our comfort without comprising privacy.

Usually there are only 2 pillows per bed but at Sawadee, there are 4 which gave us the extra comfort!

Before the children decide which bed they want to rest for the night, I quickly picked the platform bed as it is very near to the window and I get to enjoy the window view while catching the show on TV.

View from the room with Holiday Villa just right across the road.

Apart from ample walking space within the room, there is also a dressing area with a big mirror where you can blow dry your hair and do your makeup.

Bathroom is clean and neat and basic amenities is provided for the entire family.

In addition, hotel guests enjoy complimentary breakfast between 7.30am - 10.30am at Sawadee Cafe. There isn't a lot of variety at the cafe but enough to fill our tummies before we check-out.

Whenever we are at the hotel lobby, the children like to have a match at the soccer table.

Level 1 - access to lift and Sawadee Cafe

Hotel Lobby area

Apart from room stay, Sawadee offers hotel guests and their customers free access to their Sauna, Steam Bath and Jacuzzi facilities. If you wish to have Traditional Thai Massage service, it is conveniently located within the boutique hotel (charges applies).

For families with very young children, it may be best to keep in your room as more customers and masseuse can be seen at the lobby area in the night. As we only stayed for 1 night, we did not went for the massage nor use their jacuzzi/sauna facilities.

The only 'complain' I have is the floor of the room not being very clean and the dark stairways up to our floor. Otherwise, we had a comfortable stay for a night. Sawadee Resort Hotel & SPA is strategically located beside Holiday Plaza and KSL City is only about 5 minutes walk away.

Hi, I,was told that family room is shared toilet. Does that means there is no private toilet in the family room.

Hi Dennis,

Just like other hotels, the family room has 2 King beds and 1 toilet within. 4 adults can rest comfortably for the night. Not too sure what you meant by shared/private toilet, but the toilet is inside the room.

Thanks.

Your welcome! ^_^

We spent Rm200 for a night stay over the weekend. That is about SGD65-70. We appreciate the bigger room as our children are much older in age and we needed the space.

Yes. There aren't any reviews and I also read about their cleanliness. We decided to give it a try nevertheless and as I mentioned in my blog post, I find their floors not clean. Bedding wise I still find it alright as we didn't wake up feeling itchy or being biten by bed bugs. Toilets are acceptable too. If you have younger children, you may wish to stay in the room as many people are going for massage services... and you will find masseuse at the lobby area. If you stay in your room to rest, it should be fine.

We are still 'hunting' for places to stay in JB. :) It felt like we are back packing and trying out the hotels wherever we go. QUite FUN!

Well, the outside doesn't look terribly exciting, but it does seem clean and comfy inside.

I think the plus point is the location which is very near Ksl city and Holiday plaza. For a short stay this seems pretty fine for our family. We will continue to explore for more accomdation options.

2 TV seems like a good thing to have, kids have their own channels and you have your own!

Mmmm having read so many of your reviews, I think this Sawadee hotel definitely pales in comparison as compared to others that you have tried! No doubt the rates are quite affordable, I guess really 一分钱一分货

These days the boutique hotels have rooms that do not come with windows. I'm glad to see this one has, and not bad a view too. Finishing looks ok!

I like the idea of having 2 TV and the noise is pretty controlled. One of the feature of the room that i enjoyed

It is pretty fine for short stay and the plus point is being close to KSL City. Across the road there is also dining option too.

Phoebe said...

I would think so too! :) But we didn't even get to try the sauna and jacuzzi. Maybe next time. ^_^

Thanks for enjoying the post. We love our short trips into JB and hope to share more with everyone.

Hotels around KSL area charge slightly higher rates. Compared to the bigger hotels with pool, gym and better restaurants/rooms, boutique hotels generally look less glamorous. For a slightly higher charge, Grand Paragon hotel would be another alternative to stay in the area.

Oh yes! We stayed in a couple without windows and I think it does makes a lot of difference. Definitely preferring one with window and it would be best to have a decent view. :)

Thanks for the recommendation. I'd love that spot on the bed by the big windows too hehe
