J Hotel (Taman Sutera Utama)

We went on Hotel Hopping during our staycation at Johor Bahru over the long weekend. After staying at Ample Hotel, we decided to try the other boutique hotels around Taman Sutera Utama. The main reason is the strategic location - surrounded by over 70 F&B outlets, walking distance to Sutera Mall and accessible within 30km from Senai Airport, Woodland or Tuas check points.

We spent our first night at J Hotel  - a chic and affordable boutique hotel nestled within the bustling township. Staff is friendly and helpful when we enquired about the rooms on two separate occasions.

Unlike the other boutique hotels, I love the colourful, bold and vibrant colours that has been adopted. A combination of modern and vintage look giving its unique identity and most welcoming to guests who enter.

For a moment, I would have mistaken it as a cafe. Wouldn't it be nice to sit down and have a cup of coffee or tea with a group of friends?

In the night, you can also chill out at the stylish lobby as there is a small piano within! A rare gem to spot in a boutique hotel. If you are lucky, you may be able to catch live performance and enjoy some beautiful piano pieces before you rest for the night.

Even the toilets at the common area looks stylish!

Rooms are located on each floor of the 3 storey hotel - View of Level 1

Lift Lobby - Innovative idea to have full length draped curtains to soften the look of the bare wall. I will miss the lift area if the curtains are pulled down!

We booked a family room which is located at Level 3. Love the art pieces that are displayed on the purplish wall along the corridor walkway.

I guess the hotel is not built on level ground and hence there are rooms located slightly higher than others even though they are on the same floor. Mini flight of stairs can be found along the walkway and a slope by its side to allow guests to pull their luggage with greater ease. Floors along the corridor is carpeted to reduce the noise that may be generated when guests make their way through with the luggage.

J Hotel's Family Room comes with 2 Queen Beds at a price of RM168 per night (Surcharge applies during public holidays or peak seasons). I must say the bed is extremely comfortable and upon checking the details then I realised I am resting on Slumberland Beds which explains the comfort!

Even our cheeky girl felt the difference!

While the room is not big, it has the basic amenities that we needed. Water flask, In room safe, hair dryer and towels were provided. The most important requirement from our kiddos is Free Wifi.

Our room looks neat and clean.

Toilet and Shower area are separated hence it looks a little small in my opinion. I also find it inconvenient during showering as there is limited hooks to place my towel, new and soiled clothing within a confined space. In addition, I have to be careful to avoid getting my clothing wet. The plus point however is the toilet area is always dry which is clean and slip-fall free. We also reduced the time for one to brush, use the toilet and shower. Sink is located outside the toilet hence it is commonly accessible to everyone.

Window view from our room.

I like the fact that we can check on our car from the view of our family room too!

Entrance to J-Hotel is locked and is accessible via our room key card. There is also a security guard on duty round the clock who will assist to open the door. I felt more assured during our stay at J Hotel with the additional safety guidelines put in place. Some parking lots are reserved for guests but during peak periods (especially weekends), it will be limited and challenging to find one.

J Hotel is a lovely designed boutique hotel that is clean and comfortable at an affordable price. We would love to be back again next time and hopefully to try out the other designer rooms!

very cheerful colours! I think most important for a room is that the beds are nice and comfy so that you have a good night's rest and ready to chong out to have fun the next day haha

Hahahha. That's funny! But I must say the Purplish colour looks better than old and dull walls. ^_^ Then again, it is indeed an affordable stay!

Wow the rooms look so nice, it barely feels like you're in JB! I haven't had the guts to try out staycations in Malaysia because of safety issues, does the hotel have any special safety features etc? :x

Hi Jacqualine, to enter the hotel lobby.. you need the key card access or the hotel staff will open the door for you. Access to room is also via key card. As we drove in, we park our car in front of the hotel which they try to reserve for their guest. there is a security guard on duty round the clock so I think its pretty good for us.
