Kedai Kopi Xuu Yau Wanton Noodle (品苑云吞面) @ Tan Hiok Nee [JB]

We have spotted this humble wanton noodle stall located at the junction of Jalan Tan Hiok Nee and Jalan Pahang many months ago. Since its opening, it has attracted many locals to pop in for breakfast and business seems to be good.

Though the outlook of the stall does not seem appealing, it is definitely a gem if you are looking out for good wanton noodles! I would say 品苑云吞面 is my personal favourite and one of the best to date.

Preparations started way before they open for business at 7am. We saw a big pot of pork lard (猪油渣) boiling outside the stall and everyone chipping in to make the wanton dumplings, prepare the charsiew and getting the ingredients ready.

There are a few tables within the stall, or if you prefer al fresco dining, you can also sit at the tables across the road.

While waiting for our wanton noodles to be served, we also ordered traditional toast and had our coffee and tea to start our day.

I was impressed when I first tasted the noodles. The egg noodles are nicely done and does not have any bit of bitterness lingering after chewing. The springy noodles are al dente and you can choose the original white sauce or black sauce. We preferred white over the black

Each bowl is topped with charsiew, spring onions and pork lard served with a bowl of wanton soup and dumplings.

The pork filled wanton dumplings are tasty and compliments the meal.

You can go for 3 different bowl servings - Big (RM8.50), Medium (RM7.50), Small (RM6.50).  Each bowl comes with the same size of wanton soup. Honestly, even for a rather big eater like myself, a small bowl is enough to fill my tummy.

To date, 品苑云吞面 has been my favourite pick whenever I like to have a good bowl of wanton noodle. Not only is the price economical, the chewy and delicious egg noodles won our hearts. Another breakfast place to head to in Tan Hiok Nee.
