Changi Jurassic Mile - Family Date with the Dinosaurs

Changi Jurassic Mile is Singapore's latest and largest permanent outdoor display of 20 life-sized dinosaurs that was launched in early October 2020. It is also part of the newly opened Changi Airport Connector - a 3.5km cycling and jogging path that links Changi Airport to East Coast Park. Since its opening, it has attracted lots of crowd (especially on the weekends) to take selfies/wefies with the pre-historic creatures that stretched along the 1km long Jurassic Mile.

We decided to hop on the bandwagon and try our luck to visit on a weekday morning during the school holiday.

DIY Shoe Organizing with Shoe Boxes

Have been trying to organize our shoe cabinet for the longest time but nothing seems to work. Solely I think it is the users' habits and how we handle and store our footwear after use. Most common scenarios observed are as follows:

Fun Activities with Teens - Meomi Cat Cafe

Our children are growing up fast and turning into teenagers, it is actually harder to engage them in family activities as compared to when they are younger. Now that they are older, they actually have more preferences and opinions. With traveling plans put to a halt and no staycation plans in mind, 2020 year end school holidays is going to be a challenge. What are the fun things to do or places to go to spend time with my growing teens?

One nice and fun place to bring your child/teen to is a Cat Cafe. Recently my older boy has went to one with his friends and I thought it will be a nice treat for our girl as well. After researching online, there are actually a few cat cafes in Singapore.

Meomi Cat Cafe is located near Haji Lane which is surrounded by good food, rich heritage and lots of instagram friendly photo spots. I nearly missed the cafe as we walked along the row of shophouses. It did not have a prominent signboard but thankfully Gladys spotted it.

Steamboat Delivery by Steamboat King Singapore - Review

Our family always enjoy steamboat - whether it is heading out to the restaurant for shabu shabu or at the comfort of our home with our favourite ingredients. While I love preparing meals for the family, as a working mother of two teens, it can be quite time consuming and tedious. Hence, I am delighted to learn that there are steamboat bundle sets that can be delivered to our home!

Best in Singapore has listed 8 Best steamboat delivery in Singapore including some familiar names like Coca, Beauty in the Pot and Haidilao. After browsing through the listing, Steamboat King caught my eye and is my top pick in terms of its food variety, value for dollar, and ease of browsing through the website. Whether it is ala-carte or bundle sets, the ingredients and pricing are clearly stated.

Review - Origin Superior Coolmax® Latex Pillow

There are many different types of pillows in the market and sometimes I am at a lost of what to pick to best suit our sleeping needs.

What are your considerations in picking your right pillow? Here are mine.

- Pillow Filling (Natural/Chemical)
- Firmness
- Price

Over the years, I have tried various types of pillows and here's my overall experience.

Cotton Pillow - One of my first pillows in my early years. Love the softness and its breathable and washable. But as I get older, cotton pillows cannot provide the support that I needed. Filling tends to get lumpy and the pillow is not very moldable.

Down Pillow - Light, soft and comfortable but it is a little pricey and feels a little warm. Need to fluff the pillow to keep its shape.

Polyester Pillow - Cheap and lightweight. Unfortunately, the pillow usually won't last as it lumps up. Plus it also don't feel breathable and not my choice of selection.

Memory Foam Pillow - Offers support and its moldable but may feel warmer to sleep. Price range varies.

Latex Pillow - Moldable and feels breathable. It comes with a pricey tag

Touring Singapore's Last Kampung - Kampung Lorong Buangkok

Last weekend, our family took on a guided tour by Let's Go Tour Singapore - to visit Singapore's last surviving kampung on the mainland - Kampung Lorong Buangkok

The leading, award-winning Best Tour Experience tour agency has launched exciting, educational, immersive and experiential walking tours to encourage locals to rediscover Singapore and explore our local art, nature, architecture, culture and heritage and more. We are delighted to hop onto one of its newest local Edu-Tainment Story-Telling Walking Tours - {A Long Long Time Ago: Villages to High Rises}

Hubby is the only one in the family who grew up as a Kampung kid. Hence, it is a lovely trip down the memory lane for him and eye opening experiences for myself and our kiddos who are HDB dwellers.

Initially I was worried that my older teens will not be engaged with the tour but my worries were unfold shortly after meeting up with our friendly guide, Yap. Apart from taking us on a story-telling journey of Kampung Lorong Buangkok for the next 2 hours, Yap is always engaging and smiley as he enthusiastically shares the fun facts of the kampung, his insights and knowledge, relating back to the learning our teens have picked up in the Primary and Secondary school textbook contents.

So what have we learnt about Singapore's Last Kampung?

ChikSoo Korean Kitchen - Eat All You Can Korean BBQ and Stew Buffet [SG]

We usually celebrate birthdays by having family meals together and last week, I had a treat at Chiksoo Korean Kitchen (recommended by a close friend who probably knew we love Korean BBQ buffet).

Located in Oasis Terraces in Punggol, it is really convenient for us being near to our home. I have been craving for sizzling hot Korean BBQ for awhile as one of my favourite BBQ restaurant in Punggol Waterway has closed it doors. This came just in time for us to try out!

The space of the restaurant is not big, but it is cozy and comfortable. It is indeed a delighted find and the price is really attractive!

[SG] Chic-A-Boo - Delicious Fried Chicken by Astons

We have always been loyal supporters for KFC for their fried chicken despite there are other competitive outlets. Just a couple of days, we finally found another chicken specialty store that taste as good or if not better than our all time favourite.

Chic-A-Boo is actually a chain of restaurants by Astons offering fresh and tender chickens, set meals, burgers, bites and sides at affordable value bundle price. Currently, they have 5 outlets located at Marina Square, City Square Mall, Singpost Centre, Sembawang Shopping Centre and Viva Business Park.

I love the variety on the menu which has the option of set meals and ala carte. More side dishes variety to go with our set and more beverage choices. Plus, there are specials like Pot Pie, Baked Rice/Pasta and small bites if we like to have more add-ons or try other dishes if we like to give fried chicken a miss.

Healthy Açaí Bowls by The Acai Lab - Review

From Circuit Breaker and now 2 months into Phase 2, we have been staying home most of the time. Spending more time online to get the latest news updates, happenings & trend and shopping.

Best in Singapore thus also become another rising platform for us to check out the top deals, promotions and services in the areas of lifestyle, food & beverages and technology in Singapore.

Recently, Best in Singapore shared the Best 7 Acai Bowl delivery in Singapore and we are again delighted to review The Acai Lab which is among the top in the list.

What is Acai?

Did a bit of research online and learn that açaí are drupes (grapes look alike) - commonly known as açaí berries. The dark purple berries are grown on açaí palm trees in the rainforests of Central and South America and is said to be loaded with antioxidants that help to build the immune system. As they have short shelf life, açaí berries are often made into purées, smoothies, juices.

Since these power berries (pronounced as "Ah-Sai-Ee") are imported from distant countries, the price of açaí berries are more expensive.

The Acai Lab source their açaí from the Amazon Rainforest. Their açaí bowls are organic, gluten-free, vegan, keto-friendly and preservative-free.

The signature PurpleBlend Acai base comprises of mostly fresh açaí berry puree complemented with other purple superfood. Almond milk and bananas are also added to give it a creamy, light and fresh base.

Home Improvement - Gong100 Mold Removal Gel Review

Disclaimer: This is NOT a sponsored post.

Due to work, I did not have time to maintain our home. Particularly more challenging being the main person to clean and organize the space.

Circuit Breaker and Phase 1 has allowed me to spend a little more time at home and I noticed unsightly mold growing at the shower screen seal strip. Have tried many cleaning agents but the stubborn stain did not come off.

Have spotted the advert on Facebook for Gong100 Mold Removal Gel which has received very good reviews and decided to get one to try. One tube cost about SGD12 and I figured it is worth the risk.

Pizza Delivery Singapore - Review

We are more than a month into Phase 2 since Covid-19 outbreak has happened. A lot has changed ever since and this change may be a new norm and lifestyle that we have to adopt in times ahead. One of the most significant change for our family is our dining habits. We have reduced the frequency of dining out a lot and turned to having more home cooked meals, packet food or food deliveries.

Recently, Best in Singapore has shared with readers the Best Pizza Deliveries in Singapore and we are delighted to have the opportunity to review Pizza Delivery which is in the top 10.

This is the first time we tried Pizza Delivery Singapore and so it's good to read about their handcrafted pizzas. Ingredients are freshly prepared daily and pizzas are made on demand with each order and fired up in a custom-made Italian Stone Oven replica. Pizza sauce is an essential component to elevate the flavour of the pizzas and Pizza Delivery created their own secret tomato sauce and simmer it for 8 hours each day to give a rich, concentrated and deep flavour. Premium imported southern Italian cheese are used and pizza dough are handmade in batches and fermented for 72 hours to bring out its optimum flavour.

The process is really delicate and tedious so we can't wait to give it a try!

Pizza Delivery's Pizzas comes in 3 different sizes.
Small - 6' inches (4 Slices)
Medium - 9' inches (6 Slices)
Large - 12' inches (8 Slices)

Malaysia Travel Guide - 2 Weeks Itinerary Family Trip

This is a pre-Covid trip that our family had in Dec 2019. Information may have changed but we will like to document our journey down for memories.

======================================================================

Where will you go if you have 2 weeks vacation break? I guess it will be countries further away from your homeland. Hence, many eyebrows were raised when we decided to go on a leisure family trip to Malaysia late last year. It does not matter where the location is as who you travel with matters most.

We are avid travelers to Johor Bahru, but it has been ages since our last travel to the other states. There were many to consider in planning our trip but we streamlined to the main ones.

- Location & Travel Route
- Accommodation
- Mode of Transport
- Budget

Location

There are many fun places to venture in Malaysia. To start off, we decided to pick the places of interest we would like to go suiting to our family preference. A mix of city, heritage and nature experience, not forgetting what we enjoy most - food hunt!

Our planned destinations include Kuala Lumpur, Sekinchan, Genting Highlands, Ipoh and Johor Bahru

Getting Around

There are a few options available.
Hubby is not able to drive for long hours and it tires him out. Hence, we decided to take a mix of the various mode of transport available for our trip. Bus Coach from Singapore to KL, Grab car/MRT to travel around locally, Private Car Hire from Genting to Ipoh, Train from Ipoh back to KL and Bus Coach from KL back to Singapore. Thankfully, Malaysia has a good public transport infrastructure and hence traveling to our destinations is not too much of a hassle.

Itinerary

Here is a quick look of our itinerary. It seems there are some back and forth to and fro KL cos that is our central point to travel between Sekinchan, Genting and Ipoh. Especially so since we are not driving.

Day 1 (Singapore - Kuala Lumpur)

Bus Coach (SG to KL) - Breakfast @ RedDrip Baking Café (closed) - Batu Caves - Nasi Lemak Lunch @ Village Park Restaurant - Homestay (The Robertson) - Berjaya Times Square

Taiwan Trip Day 15 - Taipei (台北) | Shin Yeh Japanese Restaurant (欣叶日本料理)

15 December 2018

Our final night in Taiwan after more than 2 weeks! I really enjoyed this trip and it is by far the most memorable one to date! To mark a sweet ending to our family trip, we decided to splurge a little and have a good family meal together.

Near the hotel that we are residing in is a popular Japanese restaurant - Shin Yeh Japanese Restaurant which has garnered many good reviews. We happened to chance upon it on our first night in Taipei. After enquiry, we were shocked to learn that reservation needs to be done in advance and the restaurant is usually fully booked! Thanks to lady luck on our side, we managed to secure a table on our final night in Taipei.

Located on the 6th floor, the atmosphere and ambiance of the restaurant is both elegant and cozy. We were led to our table and wasted no time to check out what's on the buffet line!

Taiwan Trip Day 14 - Taipei (台北) | Cycling in Tamsui (淡水)

14 December 2018

After spending our morning exploring Beitou, we took the train to Tamsui. Tamsui (淡水) is located at the northern part of Taiwan and a beautiful spot for viewing sunset. Easily accessible via MRT (Red Line) to reach the north coast from the city central. There are many things you can do here which makes it a popular spot for tourists.

3pm: We have been to Tamsui a couple of times and this time, and this time we decided to do something different - Biking. Found a Bicycle rental shop that is not too far away away from the train station and the rental rates are reasonable too. We spent NT500 for the rental of 4 bicycles.

Taiwan Trip Day 14 - Taipei (台北) | Beitou (北投) | Beitou Thermal Valley (地热谷) | Quanyuan Park Foot Bath (泉源公园温泉泡脚池园区)

14 December 2018

We planned to start our day for a half day trip to Beitou (北投) in Taipei. Surrounded by mountain ranges and beautiful natural landscape, Beitou is famous for its hot springs and a paradise for joyous living with steaming hot baths.

There are 4 things you must do at Beitou - Scenic Viewing, Enjoy the Good Food, Visit Historic Sites and go on a Hot Spring.

Traveling to Beitou is an ease as it is connected via the city's metro line. Take the MRT Red (Tamsui-Xiangshan) line towards Tamsui and alight at Beitou MRT station (R22). From Beitou station, transfer the pink line to Xinbeitou Station (R22a) which is only one station away where the hot springs area lies.

Stay Home Cooking Ideas - Home Cooked Meals for Family #1

I only started picking up cooking randomly about a year ago and only know how to make a few simple basic dishes - like fry an egg or heat up a can of sardines etc. Hence when Covid-19 strikes, and we are staying home, I realised I have to cook almost every day for my family.

To make things more challenging, I need to plan what to get from the supermarket for the week to reduce our trips. I started taking photos of the ingredients I needed to prepare a meal and also keep track of cost.

I try to keep to very basic ingredients - so for the first week, it is mainly cabbage, potatoes, chicken, carrots, canned food and eggs. Managed to come up with some different variations and keep our tummies full.

#1 - Stir fry Cabbage, Chicken Stew

We are a big fan of Japanese cuisine particularly sushi, sashimi and salmon! At times we have the craving but were too lazy to head out to the restaurant. With the recent coronavirus outbreak in the community, we prefer to have meals at home instead of dining out.

Hence, we really appreciate to have our comfort food delivered fresh right to our doorstep.

Kuala Lumpur Family Travel - Batu Caves

We have made our climb up to many Chinese temples.. but to a Hindu temple, this is our first! During our family trip to Kuala Lumpur last December, we visited BATU CAVES - a  400 million years old limestone hill which is located about 13km north of KL which attracted many worshippers and tourists.

Batu Caves comprises of three main caves and a few smaller ones. The main attraction is the Temple Cave (Cathedral Cave) where you need to make a steep climb up to reach. At the base of the hill are tow cave temples - Art Gallery Cave and Museum Cave. At the extreme left end is Ramayana Cave where another tall green statue - Hindu God Hanuman stood.

For first timers visiting Batu Caves, do scroll down to the end of the post on what you need to take note prior to visiting!

DIY Baking & Brunch Cafe @ RedDrip Baking Cafe [Kuala Lumpur] - CLOSED

Back in 2016, we brought our children to Love Fun Baking House (in Johor Bahru) to experience our first family DIY baking. There we met Angie (founder of the baking house) and her lovely staff. They were really friendly and from then on, from acquaintance, to frequent customer, we became friends. Every time when we travel to JB, we will pop by the baking house for baking sessions or simply to chat.

With the success of Love Fun Baking House, Angie has ventured her business into Kuala Lumpur and since then we have not met her for a long time! During our trip to KL last December, one of our main objective is to visit her and her new shop - RedDrip Baking Cafe

Located in Uptown Damansara in KL, this is not only a cafe offering delicious breakfast and brunch, but one that also allows you to make your own dessert/cakes! Check out the menu here - https://www.facebook.com/pg/RedDripUptownDamansara/menu/

Taiwan Trip Day 14 - Taipei (台北) | Raohe Night Market (饶河街观光夜市)

14 December 2018

Raohe Night Market (饶河街观光夜市) - is one of the oldest and also popular night market in Taipei. Located right outside Songshan Station (Green Line), Exit 5, it is easily accessible via MRT.

There is usually a crowd at Ciyou Temple (慈祐宮) which is at the eastern end of the market where you will find the famous Black Pepper Bun right at the entrance. November and December months in Taipei tends to be rainy and it was again another wet, drizzling night at the open air night market. Thankfully, that did not dampen our mood to check out what's installed within.

Taiwan Trip Day 13 - Taipei (台北) | Day Trip to Wulai (乌来半日游)

13 December 2018

Wulai (烏來) is located at the southern suburbs of Taipei where the settlement of the Atayal Aboriginal people (泰雅族) resides. Surrounded by beautiful mountains, the area is scenic and it is a lovely place to spend a day or half day trip.

According to legend, warriors of the Atayal tribe came to Wulai two to three hundreds years ago to hunt. They found white smoke rising from the river and shouted "Wulai" which means 'smoky hot water' in Atayal and this is how the place got its name.

Hence, one of the main attraction is to experience the hot spring!

Taiwan Trip Day 13 - Taipei (台北) | Elephant Mountain (象山)

13 December 2018

It was a rainy afternoon and our plans was to climb the Elephant Mountain (象山), well known for its panoramic spectacular view of Taipei and Taipei 101 from the top. We were a little hesitant if we should continue with our plans knowing the stairs will be slippery and we may not have a good view of Taipei 101 due to the rainy weather. Nevertheless, we decided to brave through the rain and take on the climb up.

From Xiangshan MRT Station, it is about 20 minutes walk to Elephant Mountain. Simply follow the direction signs and it will guide you to the foot of the trail.
